Biography

Her ascent to the proscenium stage began at age 14. While acting for her was a natural gift, she began her formal training in drama in the high school program at the North Carolina School of the Arts. Thereafter, she attended NC Agricultural & Technical State University in Greensboro, NC where she received a BFA in Professional Theatre (2001). Upon graduation, she went to Kansas City, Missouri where she attended the University of Missouri at Kansas City MFA Graduate Classical Acting Program. Ms. Hines is currently Director of the Theatre Program and Associate Professor of Theatre at Elizabeth City State University where she directs the acclaimed University Players. A few of her directing credits include Before It Hits Home, Ain’t Misbehavin’, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf, Zooman and the Sign, Rumpels and Punzelle, Goldilocks on Trial, Euripedes’ Medea, Poof!, Canker Sores and Other Distractions, and many others.
Professor Hines career has also ventured into filmmaking; She was co-director, co-editor and camera operator for a documentary in Nigeria, West Africa. This project, called “It All Started Out As A Dream”, chronicled a 15-day tour of the Elizabeth City State University Concert Choir on a tour of 7 cities across Nigeria. She has also found time to do voice-over work, independent films, and many other promotional videos.
Additionally, she is an acting coach and teaches workshops which include, “Promoting Positive Achievement with Youth Through Creative Elements” and the Michael Chekov Acting Technique. She is currently enrolled in Kent State University’s Great Lakes Michael Chekov Consortium to become a Certified Teacher in the Michael Chekov Acting Technique.
