This is a story of the life, death, and after-life of Henrietta Lacks. Born August 18, 1920 and died October 4,1951, she unknowingly was the source of cells taken from her cancerous tumor during surgery. Her cells eventually became the "HeLa" cell line used in biomedical research. These cells have been used to create the polio vaccine, anti-depression and high-blood pressure pills and many more medical discoveries.
